Post Your Own Lesson

Post  xXMaliceXx on Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:33 pm

Make your own lesson. You can either post a video lesson like Mr. Lamius (yes im a suck up, I know), or you can put in some tab and a link.

The aim of this Topic is to get every body learning off of everybody else (Genius isn't it).
Most of my lessons will only be riffs, I will do full songs aswell, just not as often.

Here's an example to get the thread going:

Brick House - Commodores

G||-------------------------------------------------------------------------------||
D||O--------------------------------------5-h-7--5-----------------5-h-7--O-||
A||O---0-----3---5------------------------------------5-/-7---3------------O-||
E||--------------------3----4----5-----------------------------------------------||

So get recording and lets get this thread going.

I know how to play that (luckily). Simple really:

Money - Pink Floyd

G||---------4-----------------------------------|------4-----------------------------------------||
D||O-----------4--------------------------0---|-----------4---------------------------0----O--||
A||O---2----------2-----------0-----2--------|---2-----------2-----------0-----2---------O--||
E||----------------------2----------------------|--------------------2---------------------------||

Enjoy ffox

This song sounds good, but is really confusing being 7/4 i think.

It won't look very good if i'm the only one putting riffs up, so cmon people, help each other out

N.I.B - Black Sabbath

This is only the main riff (dunno if it's chorus or verse)
I'm sorry I don't know how to play the rest.

G||--------------------------------|-----------------------------------|--------------------------|-------------------------------------------------||
D||-O----------------------5---4-|---------------------7b---7---5-|--------------------5---4-|-----------------------------------------5---O-||
A||-O--7---7---5---7------------|---7---7---5---7----------------|---7---7---5---7---------|---7---7---5---7---------------5-h-7-----O-||
E||--------------------------------|-----------------------------------|---------------------------|-----------------------5-h-7-------------------||

In the video, instead of a bend, he does a hammer-on, I bend but you can play it how you like.

EDIT
I have made a video of ME playing the riff, my camera has the smallest memory stick ever (16mb) so I can only record for 30 seconds or so.

In the video I played it slightly differently:

G||--------------------------------|--------------------------------------------|--------------------------|-------------------------------------------------||
D||-O----------------------5---4-|---------------------7-h-9-p-7-/-5---5-|--------------------5---4-|-----------------------------------------5---O-||
A||-O--7---7---5---7------------|---7---7---5---7-------------------------|---7---7---5---7---------|---7---7---5---7---------------5-h-7-----O-||
E||--------------------------------|--------------------------------------------|---------------------------|-----------------------5-h-7-------------------||

Here's Rumble of the Diesel by Les Claypool
This song is surprisingly simple, and I reccomend you learn it, it's the only known way so far to defeat Chuck Norris. I could have died along with the bass joke if it wasn't for this song! Shocked
S: Slap, P: Pop, H:Hammer on, O: Pull Off, X: muted note, Finger pluck: F, Continue until further notice: ~, These notes are linked by slide, hammer on, or pull off: //

Verse
This goes on troughout the whole song, some variations, except during the xylophone and bass solo.

-----P--O--S-S--S--S-H--S--S-P
G|-----------------------------------
D|--5//3-------------------------5--
A|---------5--5--x--3//5------------
E|--------------------------3--3-----

-----P--O-S--S--S--S-H--S-S--S
G|---------------------------------
D|--5//3--------------------------
A|---------5--5--x--3//5----------
E|--------------------------3--2--1-

The muted note can be replaced with a 5, and the song still sounds good.

There's a bit that goes like this (e.g. 0:51 in the video):

-----F~
G|----------------------------------------------------------------------
D|----------------------------------------------------------------------5~
A|--5--6--7--5--6--7---7--8--9--7--8--9---5--6--7--5--6--7-----
E|-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Xylophone Solo
-----F~
G|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D|--5--4--3--5--4--3--5--4--3-----------5--4--3------------5--4--3------------
A|---------------------------------2--3--5-------------2--3--5-------------2--3--5--
E|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----F~
G|-----------------------------------------------------------------
D|--5--4--3--5--4--3--5--4--3-----------5--4--3------------5~
A|---------------------------------2--3--5-------------2--3--5-----
E|------------------------------------------------------------------

Bass Solo
Do something cool. Theres a bit at around 1:52 that goes like this (its only on this vid though). You can play either the G or D when you pop. It's fast, but if you mastered Dman's Higher Ground vid then it isn't too bad (it's very hard to do consistently though if you haven't got the strength in your arm):
-----S---S-S-P-S-S-P-S----S---S-S-P-S-S-P--S----S---S-S-P-S----S--S-S-P-S
G|------------x------x-----------------x------x-----------------x----------------x-----
D|------------x------x-----------------x------x-----------------x----------------x-----
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E|--3----x-x----x-x----x----3----x-x----x-x----x----3----x-x---x----3----x-x---x--

Thats most of it at least. Here's the vid:

I may post a video lesson in a couple of days, too Smile . And you better be grateful, 'cause it took me ages to tab this out, and I even accidentally closed the tab and lost a big chunk of work... Razz

Very Happy

Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said - Stu Hamm. Main Riff

A lovely tap line.

Alright, so you start off with a slap on the E - but mute it slightly with your palm (or slap it lightly, if you can't get a palm slap to ring out) so it doesn't overpower the line, and then run up the E9 chord fingerstyle (although I like to roll up with my thumb from the slap, too) from seventh fret on A, like so:

S

---------------------11---l---------------------------------
-------------9-------------l--------------------------------
-------7------------------ l--------------------------------
--0---~-----~------~----l------------------------------------

while trying not to mute the ringing E, we start the actual tapping section. R means tap right hand, L left hand. I have put numbers behind the letter to indicate a finger choice - but remember, these are only guidelines. (Pianists will jknow that fingers are numbered one to five starting with the thumb).

R3 R2 R3 L2 R2 L1 R3 L1
--------------------19\16-----------------------14-------------------------
----17------------------------14----------12--------------------------------
----------17/19------------------15\14-~~~~-----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------7h8p7-----------

And repeat!

Here's Stu, demonstrating it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LSwiMapeFs
