Is there a better alternative for the Boss ODB-3?

Post  MetalJacob on Fri Feb 11, 2011 7:18 am

I think a few of you have this pedal. I've been getting mixed reviews about it. Many people seem to be saying the same thing that the distortion doesn't give a low bass tone and sounds like a guitar when played with full distortion.
Is this true?

Is there a better overdrive pedal?

I find this to be THE KING of bass distortion since it has a two band EQ that allows you to boost bass while keeping normal treble, regaining the lost low end and potentially adding more than your clean sound has. Once you fiddle with the settings it is an absolutely great little box with a metric fuckton of uses, from light overdrive ala Motorpsycho (You Lied from Roadworks is a great example) to heavier, more metally stuff and some Muse-like sounds. My favourite pedal so far.

This pedal is pretty durable, right? I've totally been messing around with a lot and sometimes turning it on and off every other beat. I don't want to break it.

It has taken temperatures down to -20 Celsius and quite a lot of beating, no problems yet.

I'm currently building my own Green Russian Big Muff, so I'll be able to compare it to the ODB-3 once I find a place that has 0.0039uF capacitors and get the wiring done.
